04 August 2019/ By Zineb DJOUB
What are back to school supplies every teacher needs?
As teachers, we’re very interested in buying a ton of resources for our classroom to get all the necessary supplies and keep things organized. Yet, to boost students’ engagement we don’t need to spend a lot and end up getting things we’re not going to use. Therefore, to save you time and money, I have compiled a list of 10 back-to-school supplies every teacher needs. Click on the item name to get directed to the store.

1. BIC Round Stic Xtra Life Ballpoint Pen
This is the most necessary supply for any teacher. If you are like me, relying a lot on handwriting to accomplish your work, you need to mind the quality of the pens you purchase. This is what I care about because ‘quality’ for me includes not just writing but also how you feel about using the pen after writing for a while (I mean whether it hurts after HOURS of use ! ). BIC pens write smoothly and without skipping. Besides, they are comfortable.
2. Pilot FriXion Clicker Retractable Erasable Gel Pens
FriXion writes smoothly just like a regular gel ink pen. You can use different colours to write your notes, your students’ grades, remarks in your calendar, etc. It also allows you to erase like a pencil at any time. The ink easily erases. Yet, avoid putting these pens and the papers you wrote in hot places.
3. Magnetic Double Ended Dry Erase Markers With Erasers
For whiteboard markers, try these dry-erase markers. You’ll have bright colours and no odour. Besides, they write easily and erase.
4. Sharpie Permanent Markers, Fine Point, Cosmic Color
This package contains 24 Sharpie Colour Burst Permanent Markers with different pretty colours. You can use these markers for a variety of purposes: to label different items, to write in your journal, to make posters, also for school projects, colouring books, and more. The ink doesn’t fade for a very long time and it marks on paper, plastic, metal, and most other surfaces.
5. Insertable Plastic Dividers w/Front Pocket, Binder Index Dividers
To keep your files more organized you can use these plastic dividers. These are ultra-durable, tear-resistant plastic perfect for school work, office projects, and reference materials. They have double-sided pockets, so you can keep some important paper without punching holes in the paper. Also, their distinct colours help you categorize your files. With this good quality product, you can keep your papers organized.
6. HP Printer Paper, Multipurpose20, 8.5 x 11 Paper, Letter Size, 20lb paper
For printer paper, I would recommend HP Printer Paper. It is soft, bright white, and thinner than any 20 lb paper. It can be used with HP inkjet printers, laser printers, and fax machines. The quality of this HP paper will save you a lot of time, and money and make your printed work stand out.
7. Post-its Super Sticky Notes
Sticky notes are so useful. We teachers need them to write our notes, label things, get things more organized, create reminders, etc. These larger sticky notes are great because they are oversized and colourful. You can write on them using those Sharpie permanent markers and use them for different purposes: projects, anchor charts, wall charts….. and other uses outside the classroom: professional meetings and conferences notes, children schedules, marking boxes that include your stuff, etc.
8. Binder Clips
These firm-holding binder clips come in multiple sizes (tiny, small, and medium) so that you can get the perfect size that fits you. The gold colour will give a great touch to your office.
9. Storex Interlocking Book Bins
Keep your books, files, lesson plans, assignments for absent students, and all the stuff in your classroom organized and within easy reach with these bins. They are sturdy and have label pockets to which you can attach a sticky label up to 4X6. Use this great organization tool you’ll see the difference.
10.Teacher Lesson Planner
Erin Condren Teacher Lesson Planner is a real game-changer. It features monthly planning spreads, weekly lesson plans, and functional checklists and stickers for a stylish layout. You can select your colour, design, and customize your lesson planner.
This was my suggested list of back-to-school supplies. Your list may include more, but try to make sure that what you’re going to buy is useful for you and your students. ALL THE BEST.

3 Important Ideas for The First Week of School:
Cultivating Meaningful Relationships with Students
Cultivating meaningful relationships with students needs to be our intent from the first week of school, from the moment we meet our students and utter those first words in the classroom. That moment is decisive because it determines who we are in the eyes of our students and thus how the teaching and learning process is likely to proceed along the whole year.
